About the Grant Writer role

This is a project based/contract position with potential to become full-time for the right candidate. The Grant Writer will have previous experience with securing new funding opportunities, a solid background in research, and the ability to identify opportunities for special programs.  Responsibilities will include preparation of proposals and grant applications, respond to grant opportunities in the area of agriculture, farming, and technology. The Grant Writer must work effectively under pressure and have the ability to use independent judgement to produce quality proposals.

To be successful in this role, you must be an excellent writer, with prior professional experience in a similar role and compelling examples of the work you have done previously. This is a newly created position, and requires a high-energy, self-starting person who shows determination to power through unforeseen challenges. Reporting directly to the VP of Development, the Grant Writer will demonstrate the ability to cultivate and maintain funding opportunities consistent with myAgro’s values and mission.


  • Draft well-written, compelling, and persuasive grant proposals
  • Research foundations and evaluate funding opportunities for grants
  • Compile comprehensive donor research and prep the VP of Development in advance of key contacts
  • Collaborate with VP of Development to provide input for written organizational materials
  • Maintain donor records including grant tracking and reporting
  • Work with development team to gather information needed to report to funders on current grant programs.
  • Create, and run report analysis as needed
  • Submit grant requests, including letters, proposals, budgets, and presentations
  • Provide team support for events and donor cultivation
  • Develop and demonstrate deep understanding of organization wide activities and programs
  • Other projects and tasks as they arise

Required Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of professional grant writing experience in a non-profit environment
  • Bachelor degree in English, Journalism, or related field
  • Previous fundraising source knowledge
  • Stellar communication skills, written and verbal
  • Outstanding organizational skills with the ability to prioritize work, manage details, adapt easily to changing priorities, and deliver under tight deadlines
  • Calm, personable and professional demeanor
  • Positive, humble and easy-going attitude
  • Commitment to myAgro's mission
  • Proficiency in French helpful but not required
