About This Role

The Program Manager Sales role, based in Bamako, is a new management role to support myAgro’s strategy to sustainably grow sales in Mali. We are looking for a sharp professional who has a minimum of 5+ years in a Sales Management position and a proven track record of sales in rural Africa. If you are the ideal candidate for this role, you will find yourself managing a team, developing and motivating others on best practices in marketing, sales and customer relations. You will be creating strategies and drawing on the strengths of our field team to ensure the success of its rollout. 

Reporting to the Program Director, you will directly manage 2-3 Program Associates and supporting a large, spread-out field sales and field operations force across the country. You will also be responsible for providing input into the strategic plan for expansion and developing a replicable sales model to export to other regions and countries based on the work your team implements. 

Key Activities & Responsibilities 

  • Sales Strategy and Planning: Lead development and implementation of effective sales strategies and accompanying plans that clearly set forth how sales objectives are to be achieved. Monitor and evaluate sales processes, including required procedures, systems, tools, and personnel, and manage iterations throughout the season.
  • Rural Marketing: Align sales planning and execution with the overall marketing plan, including specific customer messaging and tactics to enhance customer experience in the village. Advise Marketing on effective strategies based on sales experience, e.g. development of branded sales collateral, tools and equipment.
  • Team Management:Manage a team of 3-4 direct reports and provide oversight and support to the wider team of Sales Coordinators, Managers and Agents to support myAgro’s growth efforts – including recruitment, onboarding, compensation, motivation, performance management, and off-boarding.
  • Knowledge Management:Contribute to a knowledge center for replicating myAgro’s model in new regions; codify improved operational processes to simplify and scale myAgro’s model further.
  • R&D Lead: Provide strategic thinking on how myAgro can increase farmer savings, farmer income and myAgro’s reach by identifying and prioritizing trials. Systematically monitor and report on market conditions, including customer insights and competitors’ presence, offerings, and activities.

Required Skills & Qualifications 

  • French and English proficiency, Bambara proficiency preferred
  • At least 5 years of work experience with prior project and team management experience
  • At least 5 years of progressive responsibility and track record of success in managing large, spread-out field sales and field operations force in Africa
  • Sales acumen. Expert in the understanding and application of theoretical and practical approaches to sales and sales force management, particularly to rural, low-income populations
  • A passion for the mission, vision and values of myAgro
  • Leadership. Strong leadership skills and ability to motivate diverse cross-functional teams without having direct authority over them
  • Organization. Strong organizational skills with structured, systematic approach to financial and business management. Eye for detail. Dependable with a strong sense of accountability
  • Communication. Strong oral and written communication skills. Experience to effectively synthesize data and prepare clear, compelling and high-quality reports and presentations via Excel, PowerPoint, Word and other analytical and visual communication tools
