About This Role

The Controller role is a mid-level position focused on helping build and manage an excellent and scalable financial operation to support myAgro’s growth to more than 200,000 farmers in the next two years. The Controller will be responsible for oversight of all finance, accounting, and audit activities. This role is based in New York, New York with travel to field offices as needed. Responsibilities of the position are:

Accounting and Financial Operations

  • Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with the various accounting standards in the countries of operations.  
  • Help manage global cash flow forecasting by working with country teams – gather information, analyze, and consolidate for CFO.
  • Assist with country-level forecasting and budgeting in conjunction with the Country Directors and CFO.
  • Manage and coordinate all audit activities in all countries.
  • Manage global bank accounts and be main point of contact with bank representatives.  
  • Select, implement, and manage scalable systems for all financial-related operations, including working with Program and Technology staff to streamline and improve tracking of farmer layaways from field to headquarters.
  • Upgrade and implement an appropriate system of policies, internal controls, accounting standards, and procedures.
  • Improve administrative and operational accounting services such as treasury management, grants payment processing, payroll, accounts payable, and purchasing.
  • Contribute to the development of myAgro’s strategic goals and objectives as well as the overall management of the organization.

External Relationships

  • Support the CFO in engaging with the board’s audit and finance committees – preparing presentations, meeting content, and analysis
  • Support the CFO in engaging with current and new donors – answering questions related to financials, preparing new budgets, participating in due diligence processes, preparing requested financial documentation

  Requirements

  • 3-5 years of professional work experience
  • Minimum of a BA; CPA or Masters degree preferred
  • Working knowledge of French, fluency preferred
  • At least 1 year of working under an international organization
  • Strong experience in financial management and accounting: you understand how a Balance Sheet and P&L tie together; you get excited about journal entries and petty cash management
  • A track record of developing effective processes: You see the big picture and how parts fit together, but also have a keen attention to detail. You foresee possible obstacles, and develop simple and intuitive solutions.
